In a public records request from UC Davis, we received a document showing notes from a meeting that UC Davis Professor Christopher Elmendorf had with the leaders of the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), YIMBY Law, and Abundant Housing Los Angeles (AHLA).
Notice what Leonora Camner, Executive Director of AHLA, says about us: “Culver City is trying to do the right thing, but gets pushback from their own HE consultant who believes that HCD won’t require a P(dev) analysis.”
This is concerning because it suggests a working relationship of what ought to be separate entities functioning in different capacities. The state HCD should not be complicit in the political lobbying of YIMBY and AHLA. And Professor Elmendorf’s work should remain more academic and guiding-from-a-distance.
Instead what we have here is evidence of HCD, YIMBY LAW, AHLA, and Professor Elmendorf all discussing Culver City and how to influence what happens here. It has been noted elsewhere that Leonora Camner is serving double duty by working as both a political lobbyist and as a commissioner on Santa Monica’s Housing Commission.
